NIIMC members go for a leisurely Sunday drive!!

The weather looked promising and Alastair had also promised a leisurely Sunday drive to the North Antrim coast. Ok, that’s not exactly true – the word leisurely didn’t feature in the conversation at all.

The fact that Alastair turned up as co-pilot for Brian in his stunning new motor – none other than a Misano Blue Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – signalled that our Sunday drive would be far from  leisurely.

Alastair had put together a route that would take us on some superb driving roads and as we gathered in Carrick we were all looking forward to getting out on the road again after a long period of absence, courtesy of COVID and restrictions.

Alfa Giulias dominated the line up  (4 in total) but we did have an Alfa GT Coupe, Alfa Spider and Abarth Spider for good measure (not to mention a German imposter in the shape of Simon’s Mercedes SLK).

There was a definite ‘B” theme for our run as we stuck to some well surfaced B roads and en route took in Ballynure, Broughshane, Ballintoy before reaching our final destination in Ballycastle.

The weather even improved throughout the day and as you can see from the photos the sun was shining bright by the time we stopped to admire the view as we looked across to Ballintoy harbour.

Although Ballycastle was bustling with families enjoying the weekend sunshine we managed to find safe and secure parking before paying a visit to a local chippie for a healthy lunch (also not exactly true).

One thing however that is true is that it was great to be back on the open road with NIIMC friends and we look forward to arranging a number of other club runs during the summer – we are a car club after all!!
